چکیده

We report on observations of correlated behavior between the prompt γ-ray and optical emission from GRB 080319B, which (i) strongly suggest that they occurred within the same astrophysical source region and (ii) indicate that their respective radiation mechanisms were most likely dynamically coupled. Our preliminary results, based upon a new cross-correlation function (CCF) methodology for determining the time-resolved spectral lag, are summarized as follows. First, the evolution in the arrival offset of prompt γ-ray photon counts between Swift-BAT 15-25 keV and 50-100 keV energy bands (intrinsic γ-ray spectral lag) appears to be anti-correlated with the arrival offset between prompt 15-350 keV γ-rays and the optical emission observed by TORTORA (extrinsic optical/γ-ray spectral lag), thus effectively partitioning the burst into two main episodes at ∼ T +28±2 sec. Second, prompt optical emission is nested within intervals of (a) trivial intrinsic γ-ray spectral lag (∼ T +12±2 and ∼ T +50±2 sec) with (b) discontinuities in the hard to soft evolution of the photon index for a power law fit to 15-150 keV Swift-BAT data (∼ T +8±2 and ∼ T +48±1 sec), both of which coincide with the rise (∼ T +10±1 sec) and decline (∼ T +50±1 sec) of prompt optical emission. This potential discovery, robust across heuristic permutations of BAT energy channels and varying temporal bin resolution, provides the first observational evidence for an implicit connection between spectral lag and the dynamics of shocks in the context of canonical fireball phenomenology.

Time lag between prompt optical emission and γ - rays in GRBs ( Research Note )

Aims. The prompt optical emission contemporaneous with the γ-rays from γ-ray bursts (GRBs) carries important information on the central engine and explosion mechanism. We study the time lag between prompt optical emission and γ-rays in GRB 990123 and GRB 041219a, which are the only two GRBs had been detected at optical wavelengths during the ascending burst phase. Methods. Assuming profiles of ...

Swift captures the spectrally evolving prompt emission of GRB 070616 ⋆

The origins of Gamma-ray Burst prompt emission are currently not well understood and in this context long, well-observed events are particularly important to study. We present the case of GRB070616, analysing the exceptionally long-duration multipeaked prompt emission, and later afterglow, captured by all the instruments on-board Swift and by Suzaku WAM. The high energy light curve remained gen...

ECLAIRs: A microsatellite for the prompt optical and X-ray emission of Gamma-Ray Bursts

The prompt γ-ray emission of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) is currently interpreted in terms of radiation from electrons accelerated in internal shocks in a relativistic fireball. On the other hand, the origin of the prompt (and early afterglow) optical and X-ray emission is still debated, mostly because very few data exist for comparison with theoretical predictions. It is however commonly agreed th...

GRB 081028 and its late - time afterglow re - brightening

Swift captured for the first time a smoothly rising X-ray re-brightening of clear nonflaring origin after the steep decay in a long gamma-ray burst (GRB): GRB081028. A rising phase is likely present in all GRBs but is usually hidden by the prompt tail emission and constitutes the first manifestation of what is later to give rise to the shallow decay phase. Contemporaneous optical observations r...
